Liverpool John Moores University is one of the largest Universities in the UK with over 25,000 students. Having deep roots emerging from one of the first Mechanics Institutes in the UK in 1825, the university has a long tradition of research and teaching that is relevant to the world.
We are particularly proud to be based on Merseyside and see our role as one of providing not just academic excellence but also having an important positive impact socially and economically in the region.
A significant part of that role, and one in which we are one of the leading UK universities, is delivered by supporting entrepreneurialism and the economic and social benefit that brings. This is of real importance on Merseyside where historically we have underperformed the rest of the UK in new business creation.
To make this concrete over 1000 of our students have benefited from training, mentoring and personal development through our Student Enterprise programme since 2003. 18 LJMU students have set up in business as a result of an Enterprise Bursary or external investment since 2003.
The university has an active portfolio of companies – currently numbering 51 and an additional four 'spin-offs' with a total turnover of £16m and employing some 350 people.
